Slavery – more prevalent than ever?

Is human slavery more prevalent now than ever? Are there ways to promote worker and human rights? Equity Design and The Real Wealth of Portland* encourages you to watch the film Call and Response this weekend, then come to our forum on October 20 to learn more and take action. Portland plays host to the national premier of the non-profit rockumentary Call and Response. This film deals with the reality of literal slavery for more than 27 million people on earth. It premiers THIS WEEK October 9th at Hollywood Theatre and October 10th at Living Room Theaters. Check it out! Films are too often a source of entertainment or purely educational. Luckily Portland is home to numerous organizations dedicated to social justice. We have created an opportunity where a number of excellent groups will come together so you can learn what is going on and find a way to participate that feels right to you. This is the essence of our Community Commons - Ideas into Action series. Groups participating in our October Community Commons include: Amnesty International, Jobs with Justice, Citizens Trade Campaign/Oregon Fair Trade, Alliance for Democracy, Portland Impact, Scarlet Cord, Sweat Free NW, and Compassion First. Community Commons: Ideas into Action Monday, October 20 7:00 to 9:00 pm (social time 9:00 to 9:30) First Unitarian Church, 1011 SW 12th Ave., Portland, OR 97205 Buchan Meeting Room Feel free to download the event flier and distribute or post! *A project of the Economic Justice Action Group of the First Unitarian Church of Portland
